Look in the mirror. The only person standing between you and what you want is you. It’s not your spouse, it’s not your children, it’s not your lengthy to do list, it’s not how much money you have, it’s not all of the people making demands on your time and energy, it’s not the obstacles that get in your way. There are no valid excuses, and there is no one else to blame.
You and you alone are solely responsible for how you spend your time on this planet. Your life is what you chose to make it. You make choices every second of every day, and those decisions become your life. If you are not happy, you have the power to choose to be different. You have the power to change. To change your attitude, your habits, your body, your relationships, your career, your life.
The only thing you don’t have the power to change is death. Someday it will be upon you. You will wish you spent less time worrying, fearing, procrastinating, and more time living. Steve Jobs said it quite poignantly “…death is very likely the single best invention of life.” There are some things you cannot control, so control the things you can.
Every day there is something I really don’t feel like doing. And every day I have to convince myself to just do it. Some days I’m faster at persuading myself than others. But that’s it, right there, in a nutshell; the key to everything- success, happiness, love, life. Those decisions you make, those actions you take, or fail to take, to remove the things that stand between you and your happiness, between you and your dreams, between you and your soul’s purpose.
Because, let’s face it, there is always going to be something standing in your way. And you can always find a good excuse. After all, you know how to tempt you best. Don’t continue to fool yourself. Don’t just drift through your life. Take the wheel and steer your own course. Don’t wait to be more motivated, more inspired, more prepared, more certain.
Be cognizant of what you are really fighting. It’s not you, and it’s not procrastination. It’s time. And it’s a battle you only get to fight for so long. Every second counts. Every moment is precious. In the end, you will always wish you had more.
So be really conscious about how you spend your time. Spend it wisely. Do whatever you need to do. Change whatever you need to change. Stop overthinking. Stop worrying. Stop fearing. Just stop and take action. Dive into the things that you don’t want to do, and power through them. Have more time to do the things that matter to you most.
Look hard into that mirror. Listen to your clock. It’s ticking away. Every second is another opportunity. Don’t waste it. Take action. Today. Now. You still have time.
